What Is the General Skilled Migration (GSM) Program?
The GSM program is a points-tested visa stream managed by the Australian Government to select migrants with the right skills for the countryโs labor market needs. You do not need employer sponsorship to apply under GSM.
Skilled Independent Visa [Subclass 189]
A permanent residency visa that does not require sponsorship by an employer, state, or family. It allows skilled workers to live and work anywhere in Australia indefinitely. Become a permanent resident from the day the visa is granted.
Skilled Nominated Visa [Subclass 190]
A state or territory nominated permanent visa that allows skilled workers to live and work Australia (Live and work for at least 2 years in the nominated state after arrival.) on a permanent basis. Receive 5 additional points toward the skilled migration points for state nomination.
Skilled Work Regional Visa [Subclass 491]
A provisional skilled visa for skilled people nominated by a state or territory government to live and work in Australia. (Live and work for at least 3 years in the nominated region). Receive 15 additional points toward the skilled migration points for nomination.
